Prop firm copy trading · Updated October 16, 2026

Can you copy trades between prop firm accounts?

Short answer: Sometimes, but permission is firm-, program- and account-specific. You must separately check whether your firm permits trade mirroring, whether every account belongs to you, whether cross-account hedging is restricted, and whether your copier actually supports the connection. Permission to copy does not establish TradeLink compatibility.

Four checks before copying a single futures trade

  1. Ownership: are all leader and follower accounts legally yours? Many firms prohibit copying other people's accounts or sharing logins.
  2. Program: are you using an evaluation, simulated funded account, legacy PA or live account? Rules within the same firm can differ.
  3. Trade mechanics: does the policy allow manual-originating trades mirrored to followers, and does it forbid different quantities, inverted positions or automation?
  4. Platform: are your accounts reachable through a supported Tradovate login? TradeLink's current public compatibility is Tradovate, not every futures platform.

Keep a written record of the official rules and your own configuration. If policies are unclear, request written clarification from the firm's support team. This article is educational and is not firm approval for a specific tool.

Selected firms: what their official documentation says

FirmPublished position on copyingImportant constraint
TradeifyIts Tradovate guide permits group trading across accounts personally owned and managed by the same user; third-party copiers are at the user's risk.Do not copy other traders' accounts; do not create opposing positions or violate hedging rules.
Apex Trader FundingIts current user agreement permits narrowly defined copying of manually entered orders between accounts solely owned by the same person. It requires manual order entry in the originating account and matching follower orders. Separate legacy PA guidance contains stricter language about external mirroring. Read your actual contract.
TopstepTopstepX documents its own built-in copier for Trading Combine and Express Funded accounts. The built-in copier is not permitted for Live Funded Accounts. TopstepX is not a supported TradeLink connection; do not infer third-party support from TopstepX's own tool.

Tradeify: copying your own accounts versus copying somebody else's

Tradeify's Tradovate documentation explicitly limits group copying to accounts the trader owns and manages. It warns that third-party copying tools are used at the trader's risk, and issues with those tools are not supported by Tradeify. The firm also restricts hedging and inconsistent opposite-direction trading across accounts. That is different from a promise that all Tradeify products or connections will work with TradeLink.

Before connecting, verify the connection type for every account. If the firm uses a different platform for a particular product, a Tradovate-only copier cannot operate that account merely because another Tradeify program allows copying.

Apex: current user agreement versus legacy funded-account guidance

Apex's current posted user agreement describes a narrow exception for automated copying: the originating account's orders must be placed manually by its owner, followers must be owned by that same user, and replicated orders must mirror the originating orders. Its legacy Performance Account compliance page, however, has much more restrictive language about third-party trade mirroring in legacy PA and live accounts. These documents should not be flattened into “Apex allows all copiers.”

Apex also documents a maximum of 20 active Performance Accounts across a household, companies and connections. TradeLink's software capacity of 150 accounts does not override Apex's firm-imposed account caps. Read the dedicated Apex Tradovate guide for the distinction between built-in Group Trade and third-party copier workflows.

Topstep: a built-in copier is not universal third-party permission

TopstepX has a lead/follower copier built into its own interface. Its documentation describes eligibility, scaling-plan settings, session disconnections and follower flattening behavior. In particular, TopstepX states that its copy functionality is for Trading Combine and Express Funded Accounts, not Live Funded Accounts. Topstep's restrictions on coordinated trading and cross-account hedging also remain relevant.

TradeLink does not currently advertise a TopstepX integration. A reader specifically looking for a TopstepX copier should use Topstep's documentation instead of subscribing to TradeLink for an unsupported platform.

Why one copied trade can behave differently across accounts

Even if your firm's rules permit copying, risk settings can still diverge. One follower may have less available margin, a tighter daily loss limit, a different contract maximum or a disconnected market-data session. A successful leader fill does not guarantee matching fills in followers. Monitor orders and positions at each broker, not just in the copier dashboard.

Set conservative follower sizing and review any restrictions on micros versus minis, correlated instruments, and order modifications. An accidental opposite position can become a compliance issue even if the copier caused it. See how futures trade copying works for a practical setup checklist.

Frequently asked questions

Is copy trading allowed at every futures prop firm?

No. Rules differ by firm, program, contract and account type. Check official terms for the exact accounts you want to connect.

Can I copy another trader's signals into my prop account?

Do not assume so. Many firms prohibit account sharing or copying someone else's trades. Self-directed copying between your own accounts is a different use case.

Does a 150-account copier mean I can own 150 funded accounts?

No. Software capacity and firm-imposed account limits are separate. Apex, for example, documents a limit of 20 active Performance Accounts across covered household and business relationships.

Does TradeLink support TopstepX?

Not currently according to TradeLink's published connection information. TradeLink connects through Tradovate; TopstepX has its own separate copier.

Does your account setup fit TradeLink?

TradeLink currently connects through Tradovate. The advertised plan is $40/month for up to 150 accounts and unlimited supported connections. Verify your firm's current policies and each account's connection before subscribing.
