Cloud futures trade copier vs desktop or VPS: which fits you?

Short answer: A cloud-based trade copier hosts its order-routing service on managed infrastructure. A desktop copier runs on your computer, and a VPS-based copier runs on a remote computer you maintain. Cloud hosting can simplify multi-account workflows, but no setup guarantees identical fills or removes the need to monitor your accounts.

What actually runs in the cloud?

The browser normally provides a control surface for configuring leader accounts, follower groups, quantity settings and alerts. In a server-side system, copying continues through the hosted routing process after you close your browser. The service still depends on supported broker connections, live account permissions and order processing at each destination.

Some vendors call a dashboard cloud-based while relying on a local terminal connector for certain platforms. Before paying, ask whether your particular broker route can operate without a PC or local VPS. “Cloud” alone is not a technical specification.

What server-side TradeLink offers

TradeLink advertises one $40/month plan with up to 150 accounts and unlimited supported Tradovate connections. Its copier runs server-side, with groups and follower risk settings managed through the interface. Your browser does not need to remain open for the supported hosted copying workflow.

TradeLink's publicly documented connection is Tradovate. Rithmic is described as coming soon and should not be treated as available today. If any of your accounts use an unsupported platform, a different vendor may be the correct fit until support actually launches.

When desktop software might be better

A locally installed product can suit traders who need a specific platform add-on, control over their own environment or supported local trading terminals that a cloud provider cannot connect. A VPS may help keep those applications available while the trader's physical computer is off, although the VPS adds cost and operational responsibility.

Do not pick a product solely by its monthly fee. Include the real hosting tier, broker connectivity, data access, monitoring workflow and the time required to troubleshoot session failures. A cheaper copier that cannot access one of your funded accounts is not the more economical solution.

What can go wrong in either model?

Suppose a leader fills two contracts while a follower has insufficient margin. That follower's order may be rejected while another fills. If the user resubmits without checking current positions, the accounts can diverge further. Server uptime cannot prevent an independent broker rejection or a change in market liquidity.

Other important cases include partial fills, mismatched contract size, lost authorization, daily loss lockouts and orders remaining working after an intended exit. Broker positions and official order details are the source of truth. Read our copier risk-management checklist before running multiple funded accounts.

Decision checklist

  1. Identify every actual broker/datafeed connection and confirm current product support.
  2. Check whether the exact route needs any desktop terminal or personal VPS.
  3. Compare included followers, logins, billing tiers and any separate hosting cost.
  4. Understand what happens to each follower after a rejection or disconnect.
  5. Confirm your prop firm permits the intended copying workflow between accounts you own.
  6. Test small in an allowed environment and supervise the broker-side order statuses.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a VPS for a cloud futures trade copier?

A fully hosted copier generally does not require a personal VPS for its supported routes. Some integrations elsewhere may still require a local connector.

Will copying continue if I close my browser?

With server-side TradeLink copying, the browser is a dashboard rather than the router. Required supported account connections must remain available.

Does cloud copying guarantee faster fills?

No. Exchange, broker, network and market conditions all affect order execution. Vendor claims about speed require independently comparable evidence.

Can TradeLink copy Rithmic accounts?

Not currently according to its published compatibility information; Rithmic is described as coming soon.
